Yawning Man at Cafe 322 poster

I dig Yawning Man. It's always a thrill to do a project related to them and when I got the word that they had a show coming up and probably needed a poster I jumped at it! Special thanks to Erik Davies their number one fan for giving me the heads up on the show and pushing me to create something.

This image and idea is something I had been working on off and on for awhile when not working on commissions. The sketch above is from a little sketchbook I sometimes draw in while traveling. I saw a shirt someone was wearing on a plane that I thought looked like this but on 2nd glance while exiting the plane it was more Birth Of Venus than Lady Gaudalupe.

Above is some reference art. I took from here and there as you can see.

Heres some early workings on it including the ink scan. I started off with the lines being pretty simple and direct, funny how the final image retained that simlicity overall but more due to a time constraint.

^ And here is a version I was toying with, how to get the poster to appear like its on a stucco wall. I spent alot of time looking for the right textures for this and playing with their visibility only to go with the white version. Thats ok, managed to catalog some of the randome textures I've collected while I was digging through them.

LOOK ABOVE THIS TEXT!!!! ^^^^ Here are some pictures of the printed poster, it's true!
